{"id":4402,"date":"2026-03-13T05:29:05","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T05:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/?p=4402"},"modified":"2026-03-13T05:29:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T05:29:10","slug":"%e2%81%a0changes-to-407-visa-how-does-it-affect-current-training-visa-holders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/zh_cn\/2026\/03\/13\/%e2%81%a0changes-to-407-visa-how-does-it-affect-current-training-visa-holders\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2060Changes to 407 visa &#8211; how does it affect current training visa holders?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Blog12Mar2026-1024x572.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Blog12Mar2026-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Blog12Mar2026-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Blog12Mar2026-768x429.jpg 768w, https:\/\/specialistedu.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Blog12Mar2026.jpg 1376w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 11 March 2026 changes mainly affect&nbsp;<strong>new<\/strong>&nbsp;407 training visa applicants and sponsors, but they also matter for current holders who were hoping to renew their training visas in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What has changed from 11 March 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can no longer lodge sponsorship, nomination and the 407 visa\u00a0<strong>at the same time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 407 visa application is only\u00a0<strong>valid<\/strong>\u00a0if: your employer is already an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor, and (unless it is a Commonwealth agency) there is an\u00a0<strong>approved 407 nomination<\/strong>\u00a0in place for you before you lodge the visa.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What it means for current 407 holders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your\u00a0<strong>current visa remains valid<\/strong>\u00a0until its expiry; the rules change how any\u00a0<strong>future<\/strong>\u00a0407 application is lodged, not how your existing grant is treated.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you were planning to apply for another 407 with a new or existing employer, that employer must now first obtain Temporary Activities Sponsor approval and an approved nomination before you can validly lodge a new 407.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you lodge a 407 visa\u00a0<strong>without<\/strong>\u00a0an approved sponsor and nomination after 11 March 2026, your application will be\u00a0<strong>invalid<\/strong>\u00a0and you will not hold a bridging visa as you will not have a substantive visa. Therefore, being unlawful in Australia.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Processing times and planning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Currently, sponsorship and nomination must be approved first, the overall timeframe can stretch significantly; sponsors often wait at least 12-18 months for approval, and 407 visa processing itself takes several months.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Realistically, you should allow\u00a0<strong>9\u201312+ months<\/strong>\u00a0from the point your employer starts sponsorship to the time your visa might be granted, especially if documents are not \u201cdecision ready\u201d.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why the government changed the rules<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 407 visa is intended for\u00a0<strong>genuine, structured workplace\u2011based training<\/strong>\u00a0to build skills.
