There are some key occupations under the skill in demand visa (482) which require a skills assessment in vocational skilled categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electricians | Mechanics | Plumbers | Bakers | Brick layers | Chefs & Cooks | Hairdressers | Welders | Joiners | Diesel & Motor engine mechanics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Australia, the most common is pathway 2 which requires an Australian qualification and an Australian occupational licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pathway 1 is more common for those whose qualification are from non-Australian institutions. These require applicants to be assessed through a technical interview which includes a practical demonstration of skills particularly for electricians and plumbers. The applicant must also provide documentary evidence of their own experience, which will be assessed through Trades Recognition Australia (TRA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it important?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Australia needs to ensure that the migrants they are admitting to Australia have the sufficient skill to cover the shortages which Australia have, whether that be in a core skill or a specialist stream or in an area where skilled migrants nominated by employers who have a labour agreement with the Australian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can Hong Kong people apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kongers can apply for their trade to be recognised by the TRA after completing a 2 year diploma course or can apply for TRA recognition based on their Hong Kong experience, from there they would need to source an employer who would sponsor them on a Skills on Demand visa (482) with a validity of 5 years. They would then be eligible for the 189\/191 Hong Kong pathway for Permanent Residency<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important that your skills are recognised through a skilled authority such as TRA or VETASSESS or a similar body to ensure that you can meet the eligibility for that occupation as well as having related work experience in that field and at least a minimum of IELTS 5.0 with a score of 5 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
